"Making the case for Access" - Conference and AGM, Birnam Institute, Dunkeld - Friday 7th May 2010
At the recent SCAN Access Summit one concern was voiced loud and clear - the most pressing worry at the moment is finding the money and resources to implement and sustain outdoor access work, whether core paths, rights of way or just general access rights.
As local authorities tighten their belts and more people are seeking limited funds and grants, how can outdoor access hold its own?
This conference will demonstrate how outdoor access can be embedded at the heart of local government policy, reflecting its relevance to strategic agendas such as health, climate change and regeneration.

"Delivering Path Networks - the route to success"
Friday 8th May 2009
Scotland has world class access rights to be proud of, but our entire path network is not yet of such a high standard. Paths are important for people's everyday lives and can deliver on a number of agendas, including health, sustainable transport, tourism, better communities and quality of life - and core paths are a key way of kick-starting further development of path networks across Scotland.
With most access authorities nearing completion of their core paths plan, community groups increasingly interested in developing local access routes, land managers being encouraged to improve access and funding sources for everyone having changed significantly, how can we now deliver path networks? Can working in partnership increase the value of available resources? Is a collaborative approach the key to successful delivery?
This conference aims to unravel the complexities of some sources of grant funding and examine how we can support each other and make delivering path networks a priority for everyone!
